Who are you?

I am an attorney-author practicing in Philadelphia. What is an “attorney-author,” you ask. It’s a little like an “actress-model,” but without the good looks and vacant eyes.

Where do you live?

I live with my wife and two pit-bulls in the western suburbs of Philadelphia.

What’s your home life like?

Up by five, write a little, at the park hiking with my dogs by 6:30, at work suing big corporations by 9:00, home by 7:30 (hopefully), wrestle with dogs, dinner with my wife—I cook, write a little, movies, reading, TV, or sitting around thinking profound thoughts.

What genre(s) to you like to write? To read?

I enjoy psychological suspense, legal thrillers and corporate thrillers, and am working on a book now that fuses all of these genres—It will be my Bohemian Rhapsody (“You can’t do that—it mixes too many things! Opps, best seller).

Why did you start writing?

Other authors probably tell you the same thing, but I think I just have it inside me. I began writing stories when I was in Fifth Grade. The teachers would take me around to read them to the other classes. Then, I got busy with adolescence, college, law-school, etc. and forgot all about it. Until one day when I was thirty something, I was writing a brief for the U.S. Supreme Court. I was talking to one of the paralegals, all excited about the brief, and she said, “You really like to write, don’t you?” And I said, “Oh, yeah, I do.” I went home that night and started on my first novel. (Spoiler alert-it was terrible; I’d like to say the dog ate it, but he refused).

What do you do when you’re not writing?

Sleeping or practicing law.

Where do you like to go when looking for a new book to read?

Amazon, or Main Point Books (my local bookstore).

At what point do you call it quits when reading a new book?

If I find that I can’t identify with the protagonist, find some reason to care about him or her, I will put the book down.

Are you independently or traditionally published?

I am published by Thomas & Mercer, an Amazon imprint.

How many books/stories have you published so far?

Three

What book/story are you currently promoting or working on?

A Killer’s Alibi comes out February 19, 2019. It is my best work yet and I’m excited for people to read it, and to tell me what they think. (And, yes, it does matter to me what my readers think about my books. I look forward to the reviews because I take guidance from them).

What’s the elevator pitch?

For attorney Mick McFarland, the evidence is damning. And so are the family secrets in this twisty legal thriller from the Amazon Charts bestselling author of A Criminal Defense.

When crime lord Jimmy Nunzio is caught, knife in hand, over the body of his daughter’s lover and his own archenemy, he turns to Mick McFarland to take up his defense. Usually the courtroom puppeteer, McFarland quickly finds himself at the end of Nunzio’s strings. Struggling to find grounds for a not-guilty verdict on behalf of a well-known killer, Mick is hamstrung by Nunzio’s refusal to tell him what really happened.

On the other side of the law, Mick’s wife, Piper, is working to free Darlene Dowd, a young woman sentenced to life in prison for her sexually abusive father’s violent death. But the jury that convicted Darlene heard only part of the truth, and Piper will do anything to reveal the rest and prove Darlene’s innocence.

As Mick finds himself in the middle of a mob war, Piper delves deeper into Darlene’s past. Both will discover dark secrets that link these fathers and daughters—some that protect, some that destroy, and some that can’t stay hidden forever. No matter the risk.

How long have you been working on it?

It took almost one year to the day to write A Killer’s Alibi.

When will it be available to buy? Where?

It's available or pre-order now at Amazon and BarnesandNoble.com It debuts February 19, 2019

How can readers find you?

What inspires you to keep writing?

This is not a direct quote but it has stayed with me:
Conflict reveals character. If you want to find out what deep character of someone (real or fictional) is, put them under stress.
Whenever I write, I put my characters under great presser to reveal to the reader—and to myself—who they really are.

Anything you’d like to add?

I think you just about covered it.

My thanks to Bill for joining me for a second author interview.
